Accessibility statement.
We build to Section 508 and WCAG 2.1 Level AA because the people our clients are trying to reach include Veterans with traumatic brain injury, hearing loss, low vision, and cognitive fatigue. An asset those people cannot use has not reached them.
This statement covers this website. It also states the standard we apply to every deliverable we produce for a client.
Conformance status
This site conforms to WCAG 2.1 Level AA.
Fully conformant means the content meets every applicable Level A and Level AA success criterion, with no known exceptions at the time of the assessment below.
The same standard satisfies Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act, which incorporates WCAG 2.0 Level AA by reference. We build to 2.1 rather than 2.0 so that mobile orientation, reflow, and target-size criteria are covered as well.
Where a page includes a data graphic, such as the service-area map in the Reach Audit sample findings, the same information is published as labeled text and as a table on the same page. The graphic is an aid, never the only route to the content.
What we do to keep it that way
Accessibility is a review gate in our production process, not a step at the end. The same protocol that governs safe messaging governs access.
- Contrast
- Every text and interface color pair is measured, not estimated. Body and interface text meets 4.5:1 or better; large display type meets 3:1 or better.
- Type size
- No text renders below 12px at any breakpoint. Body copy sets at 19px. Content reflows to 320px width without horizontal scrolling or loss of information.
- Structure
- Headings descend in order without skipped levels. Landmarks mark the header, navigation, main content, and footer. Data tables carry captions and row or column scopes.
- Keyboard
- Every interactive element is reachable and operable by keyboard, in a logical order, with a visible focus indicator. A skip-to-content link opens each page.
- Images
- Informative images carry alternative text that states the information, not the file. Decorative images are marked so assistive technology skips them.
- Color
- Color never carries meaning alone. Map categories are distinguished by fill pattern as well as hue, and each category is named in the legend and in the text equivalent.
- Language
- Plain-language readability thresholds are set per audience and verified before release, alongside SAMHSA person-first language standards.
What this means for your deliverables
Section 508 conformance is a term of most federal and grant-funded work, and it is the term most often discovered to be unmet after the campaign has already run. We treat it as a production requirement with a cost and a schedule, so it is met before release rather than remediated after.
Video is delivered with accurate captions, not automatic captions, and with audio description where visual information carries meaning the narration does not. Print and digital assets are built with the contrast and type minimums above. Documents are delivered tagged, with reading order set and alternative text written.
The compliance summary you receive at the end of an engagement includes the accessibility record, in a form you can attach to a grant report or an audit response.
